Certificates of survey and plats for 708 Somerset County tracts that were not granted patents. A certificate of survey is an official description of a plot of land. Within the colony, the Land Office issued warrants of survey to the surveyor general who in turn generated certificates of survey. After 1776 county surveyors replaced the surveyor general. Arranged numerically by certificate number. Indexed by Certificates and Petitions, Index series [MSA S25] and MARYLAND INDEXES Patents, Tract Index series [MSA S1427].
